Hi Friends,

As the title suggests, this is the place where you can discuss/suggest the tweaks that you may be applying to the 60min flow. Just a few basic guidelines for all of us..so that we dont stray away from the purpose:

1. Please mention what are you trying to achieve with your tweak. It may be either to Increase ovreall profits…reduction in few loss making trades… reduction in the Drawdown….better correlation to the overall market…or whatever relevant you may think of. All roads leading to the same destination….but do put up the purpose.

2. Please be specific in how do you apply it or intend to apply it. If you use 3 or 4 guidelines or criteria to derive at decision making…do discuss each of them and their inter/correlation.

3. Present a few charts depicting what you intend to show…makes it easier for most of us here.

4. Most appreciable if you can present a backtest with the tweaks you employ. As a test case, you can take Nifty for the period anywhere between October 2008 till today. I will provide the backtest results for the exact same period with the rules that we r currently using….so that people can pick it up from there.

5. Not only can you discuss your tweaks..you can also discuss when you would consider NOT to trade the 60min. It can be anything which can help you stay out of rangebound days where we get whipped around.

I am expecting a BOMBARDMENT of ideas from all of you..especially the wise ones here like Satya, Bee, Prabh, Komal apart from others.

Lets get going.

Thanks,

Puneet

ps: Dont get fooled by the points mentioned above. I wrote them as I wanted to sound specific and methodical. Let there be no bars in your presenting the ideas. Though if you adhere to the above….would be easier for others to get it better.

Friends,

Though I am a very new student of trading and newer still on Wolfe Waves, Saint has directed me to start this thread and try and introduce Wolfe Waves for the benefit of ambush traders. I may make mistakes and may be wrong sometimes in my interpretation but the effort is to learn together.

As Saint is my teacher and I have learned trading from him, similarly the credit for teaching me Wolfe Wave goes to a man by the name of Ajax in TJ. It is with a prayer of gratitude to him that I start this thread. I would request all those interested in learning about Wolfe Waves go to his thread in TJ for further learning.

I am listing some links below, which give the basics of Wolfe Waves in easy terms and the terminology i.e., points 1,2,3, 4, and 5 and symmetry. For the sake to uniformity, easy understanding and posting, we will stick to the numbering of points as given in these links – they are widely followed and universally understood.

I will not dwell on the introduction and basic terminology and will assume that at least these three links are read by you all thoroughly and I will concentrate on latest examples and explain the formation and trade entries and exits i.e., the applicability of this knowledge in our day to day trading.

http://www.voodootrader.com/wolfewave.htm

http://www.wolfewave.com/what_is_the_wolfewave.htm

http://www.investopedia.com/articles/trading/05/040405.asp

More in next posts.

Thanks

Bee

As of today,we have 6 new moderators(Satya has yet to give his confirmation though)…..New Moderators, but Old Names with regards to the Flow Methods and its variations. Not just old,but the most respected as well.

More than a Moderator who keeps the Law and Order under Control as is the case with most other forums, the job here is to moderate the discussions, answer doubts,etc……..all already being done by these very individuals here at TS and in our threads in other forums. The focus of this forum has been, from the very outset, quality and not quantity.Let this forum not be judged by its frills and fancies or its massive number of membership or its huge number of threads or the voluminous amount of chit chat…..Instead,let this forum be judged by its quality. Not just high quality academic discussions, but that which can be practically applied at the markets.

It must be understood by members and moderators alike that this forum is generating a high viewership by a huge body of very silent onlookers and therefore a certain degree of quality must be maintained.Who better to give that high quality add than Flow's Finest……..Already on board is Kapil,Puneet,MJ,….and added to that group are:Smart Trade,Prabhjeet,Beethoven,Neeraj,Vineet and Satya.(Pramod has been caught up with a few projects at hand and is not available for now,but will be joining us in a couple of months).

The reason why so many have been added is very simple………We are Traders first, and then only can the Forum assume any priority. We are nothing if our Trading doesn't go well.Trading is what we do,A Trader is what we are……Therefore to lessen the burden on any few individuals, there are 10 of us.It is as simple as that.We need as much help as possible to lighten the load and yet together, that high quality must be maintained.

A Brief Flow Intro of the Mods:

Smart Trade:Joined us a bit later after the beginning of the Flow Threads. One of Flow's Finest. No difference in the way we see things in 99% of the times.A man who practises what he preaches. Not only is he brimming with great Trading Wisdom,he is ready to share it all.Not only is he a great teacher, but an even greater trader. The Lifeline behind the MiniFlow Threads.Great to have you around,my friend!

Prabhjeet:With us from the beginning,he has seen it all.The birth of this Method, its growth and evolution and where it stands now.Has been instrumental in the way the Flow Methods have grown. An excellent Trader. He is practical, not interested in knowledge that cannot be applied, highly interested in knowledge that can give his trading that extra edge.Have watched him grow over the years to an excellent trader.Great to have you around,Prabhjeet!

Kapil:Came in much later, very silent learner. His growth is explosive.Kapil scares me,many times I read his posts and think I have written it.Sees it the way I see it.A fantastic trader,a great teacher…..Along with Puneet,MJ and Pramod, the brain behind the origins of TS.No airs and graces, very humble and yet an aggressive, ruthless trader.A great asset …..

Puneet:An incredible young man,he has that ability to see the very small pivots and use it to great perfection.Someone not afraid to speak his mind freely, and not afraid to ask his queries. Not afraid to put in that extra effort required. Not afraid to take a trade once convinced. Not afraid to follow the method to the tee…..Well,that's what Puneet is about. Not afraid,a fearless trader with a great eye and willing to put in the hard work…….As said, with Pramod,MJ and Kapil, the brain behind the origins of TS.

Beethoven:Another of Flow's Finest. He has been one of the great teachers in the Flow Threads,a great help to others.Has that practicality in what he wants to learn, and not just caught up in scholarly thesis.Willing to sacrifice anything to learn that extra bit to give his Trading that extra edge…..and then to share what he has learnt.Great to have you around,my friend!

Satya:Flow's oldest friend, and probably its purest…….the way he trades and the person that he is.One of the 2 people in this forum that I have had the great fortune to have come in direct contact with.Ruthlessly follows it the Pure Way to great success, and a great Teacher to us all.Humble,a very nice person, willing to help anyone who needs help, and above all,the main focus is to trade the markets.Great to have you around!

Neeraj:His growth in the ambush threads is explosive, his willingness to share even greater. In ambush,we are seeing most nearly alike…….also possesses the Flow trait,a trader first and foremost, and a teacher because of that.Great to have you around,Neeraj!

Vineet:Very humble, but an incredible powerhouse of knowledge…….a great trader. One of the great lifelines of our thread in TJ.Ambushes the markets with as equal an ease as he shares his knowledge.Great to have you around,Vineet!

MJ:One of the brains behind the origins of TS,He was a teenager till a year back……the trading wisdom that he has already accumulated at so young an age makes it mind boggling just imagining what he can end up becoming over the next decade.Hardworking, ambitious, wise head on the shoulders, yet another great asset.

Pramod:Kept this for the last…….a genius in the way he sees things, the brain behind TS,a great friend, the other person of this forum other than Satya that I have had the opportunity to come into direct contact with.He is busy with a few things right now,but TS misses him and looks forward to his return.

I have learnt from each and every one of the persons mentioned above……all of them I have great respect and regards for. They will all claim that they have learnt from me.Unbeknownst to them,I have learnt so much from each and every one of them.A great set of individuals. They will be around to moderate the discussions, pour their vast knowledge, and answer the doubts of the relative new.

This is a great help to me and I sincerely thank them.

Best Wishes,
Saint

Geometrical Chart Patterns - How to trade

Hello,

Here I will try to explain how I trade Geometrical Patterns.

Let me start with Symmetric Triangles.

Symmetric Triangles form when the markets are in indecision mode. Symmetric triangles can be easily detected when prices make alternate "lower highs" and "higher lows" in upside and downside slopes defining a symmetry. Symmetric triangles form when supply and demand are almost equal. Most triangles result in a clear breakout/breakdown in the direction of the prior trend.

Usually volume will drain during triangle formation. I am not looking at volume while trading triangles.

Trade Entry Rule: enter a trade few ticks above/below breakout/breakdown bars high/low.
Breakout/Breakdown happens when close of the bar is beyond trend line defining the symmetric triangle.

Target: Target is breadth of the symmetric triangle from the point of breakout/breakdown.
Partial exit can be considered at 50% breadth level.
t is better to close trade near 90% breadth.

Stop Loss : Previous swing low below down trend line defining Symmetric Triangle for upward break.Previous swing high above up trend line defining triangle for downward break.
Once in profit, use trailing SL to keep profit. Pivot high/Pivot low can be used as trailing SL.

Hope I have conveyed what I wrote in the chart below.

Thanks and regards to all.

One Bar Reversal Flow Scalping Method

It is a short term scalping/daytrading method,totally objective,rule based

ONE BAR REVERSAL FLOW METHOD FOR SCALPING

Putting down a short term scalping method…..if you trade it on 5 or 10 min bars,it becomes a scalping or daytrade method,if you trade on 30 min or hourly bars,it becomes a swing trading method…..

Too simple to call it a method….borrowed lot of concepts from Saint

The concept : While studying pivots I have observed that once a PL is made…market has a tendency to reverse the flow from down to up…or in some cases it will immediately fail. So built a method around this observation.

Time Frame : 5 min bar or candlestick charts.

Initial Entry : first 5 min bar as we do in miniflow… if top broken, buy with bar low as SAR and vice versa

Filter : NIL but I round off to next number ie PL is 4224.6 I will consider it as a valid break if 4224 is taken out…..

Type: It is a SAR method,so long trade is closed and short opened immediately on short signal.

Signal and Reversals : First trade is always first 5 min bar breakout…Reversals I will explain with help of charts…we go to NF chart and see the trades…

We go to 25-5-09 NF chart 5 min TF . First 5 min bar low rounded off to 4236…broken on downside in 10:15 bar….we go short and initial SAR the breakout bar or the earlier bar whichever is high…..SAR to trail down only if new low is made then trail down to higher of that breakdown bar or earlier bar whichever is high…

And it continues…..if both bars are too tiny and having same high then SAR at one bar still earlier H in downmove

Sideways pivot of 3-4 bars and above considered for reversal….Pivots have veto power for reversalsexcept tiny one bar up/one bar down kind of pivots

After 10 :15 bar we have 2 up bars…SAR remains at H of 10:10 bar…not to be moved till we get a new low….

Then at 10:45 bar we make a new low…SAR trailed down to 10:40 H which is taken out in 11:00 bar….so we go long…SAR 10:55 bar low….each bar making a high higher than the earlier ba…SAR shifts one bar up….so on so forth.

ADDS: Only one add…after initial entry, the moment initial SAR is shfted in our favour,we add at the close of that bar

I will list trades taken on 25-05-2009 : The trades are without adds…with adds profits are more….

Trade No Short/Long Bought Sold Profit (Loss)
In points

1 S 4233 4236 3

2 L 4233 4264 31

3 S 4265 4264 (1)

4 B 4265 4260 (5)

5 S 4230 4260 27

6 B 4238 4246 8

7 S 4233 4246 13
At EOD

---
TOTAL + 87 nifty
Points without adds,we will take adds after practicing basic method for one week….adds make it really sweet….

20-5-2009 was a bad day for most systems…this method made 43 points profit with 7 trades….
It is basically a chandelier method…it latches on the moment market turns….I pay Rs 2.25 as round turn brokerage and charges,STT,stamp duty etc so about Rs 18-20 are eaten away by brokerage….

Advantages of this method are

1) Totally mechanical…no thinking,no micromanaging ,no interpretation, any one can trade…..one can even have a BPO or KPO set up to trade this method
2) It makes some money when other TFs are nontrending….losses never large

Disadvantages :

1) Too many trades….4to 8 in a day….
2) Too intense…you are glued to the screen

We will post 1st June trades EOD with bar to bar explanation. It is a very fast method and it is not be possible to take trades, post realtime, answer questions, post charts etc….Real traders will understand …

Smart_trade

A big hello! to all the wonderful members here; I'm Mihir. I've been investing since last 5 years, and have been trading since last two years.

I've been an avid fan of investors and traders like Buffett, Soros, Paul Tudor Jones, Livermore, Mark Cook, Victor Sperandeo, Phil Fisher, Jhunjhunwala etc and read everything I can get my hands on regarding investing/trading. I aspire to one day achieve lasting success in this field. I've done good on my personal investments front, but moderate on the trading front. I've tried a lot of methods, indicators etc and I've made my mistakes, and learnt a lot of things the hard way….and am still learning every day.

So my quest for getting better at trading led me first to TJ and then here following Saint…and boy, am I glad! I've so far been a silent observer, but today when Saint started the thread on trading BNF Ambush style, with a starting capital of 5 lakhs, I felt compelled to write this. First of all, I'm highly impressed by Saint as a person…how many highly successful traders do you know who would share their methods so openly and without any charges or other vested interests? I know none. And how many of such highly successful traders are so humble and straight forward? Again, I know none.

Saint, your methods are obviously highly successful and you are living proof of that. But the reason I started this new thread is to let you know what a big difference you are making in many people's lives. I read all you have to say religiously, and it has helped me improve a lot. You inspire me, and when the chips are down, seeing your performance gives me hope and strength to go on.

I urge you to blog more….especially about the psychological element of trading, as that I believe, is the trickiest part. Keep up the great work Saint…everybody's good wishes are with you. Very few people would do what you are doing, and I wanted to take this opportunity to acknowledge it and thank you.

Thanks also to all the active members of the forum like MJ, Bee, Neeraj, ST, etc….thanks for all your inputs. I am delighted to join this forum, and hope to make some useful contribution.

M.

This thread's aim is to trade a small account of 5L and because of limited capital,we are focussing all our energies on the Intraday BANK NF.With this capital,we are not trading the 60min Flow,or the Intraday MiniFlow. We are ambush-ing the BANK NF and we want to see how much we can pull out of it.

RULES:Ambush Rules

CAPITAL:5L.(L=lakh,k=thousands)

TARGET:Daily:7.5k.Weekly:25k Monthly:1L

We may reach our targets,we may not…….but in setting Goals,we have lifted our Minds,we have changed the focus and attention from the prevention of loss to the making of gains. So,if we do it,pat on our backs……if we don't,pat on our backs. We are going to do it next month……

Also,Base Capital is what we are calculating our risk from……..we will be updatingour base on a weekly basis. So,if we made 25k this week, our capital for next week is 5.25(new denominator in our calculations.

As always,we want it to be simple. We are taking all 5min turns, except if longer tfs tell us we are in sideways.

As said before, let's see how far we can reach……more than anything this is an exercise once again to show what is possible, and how it can be achieved.

Rest we will add as we go along………

Happy Trading!!
Saint

Hello all.

i don't know if it is right or not to start a journal here. but i have started this thread to keep my self disciplined
and learn from seniors. i am thankful to saint for showing us many great trading methods. here i will try ambush
trades and will also enter my reasons for trades at eod. will post trades in realtime as i take them.

i am not experienced in this kind of trading and i dont want to do paper trading so have allotted a very small amount to ambush trades.
Rs. 10000 only. if i lose this amount then i will stop trading. my risk per trade would be Rs. 100, so quantity will depend on stoploss.

i am using indiabulls so i have to square off intraday trades before 3 pm long trades can be squared of before 3.30 if i take in cash. but will square off everything before day ends.

entry, as saint says ambush, will use triangles, trendlines, pivots, reversal candle signals etc.
no adds for now. exit at pivots or near support, resistence or at reversal signals from candles. will also book partial profit if there is a good move.

hope to have a nice journey, and hope Saint and other seniors will guide me.

Mods, please tell me this is not a suitable place for journal.

SO

Hello friends

My name is Siddharth Bhatia
I am a technology journalist, and write /report for tech2.com

I got into markets and trading due to my organization( tech2 is under network 18), about 3 years back when I joined them.
Since then there has been the journey of the typical beginner trader: the small profits, the huge losses, the explicit words, bogus tips,( we have cameramen spreading stock split rumors at our office, its hilarious…), black box systems and most of all the learning and soul searching.
I have been a silent student back at TJ, following Saint Sir and the rest of the respected seniors, and I must say this that I have the utmost respect for all of you. I'm thankful to the admin for accepting me to this forum, and I wish to be a part of the learning and the journey.

(quite an oxymoron no? so many 'I's in the introductory speech at Saint Sir's flow method?? I just hope these 'I's stay out of trading :-) :-) )

Cheers
Sid

Since our markets are not opened for the all 24 hours and gaps are pretty common in our stratergy, the first 5 minute bar gains a lot of significance. We take into account the first bar which involves OPEN HIGH LOW CLOSE..out of these the OPEN HIGH LOW can be a lot of those what we call "flick'trades. That can amount to 1. A bar which "practically" which has manupulative figures of open high and low 2. it can allow happen that different softwares may or may not capture these flick trades…
In order to resolve that i thought if we could use something more tradeable figure which could be say " average traded price" of the first five minute bar….

any thoughts ???

Keep flowing

Hello Saint sir & other members,
First of all thanks a lot for creating this great forum.
my self Nilaish Agrawal..34 years..not full time trader yet but planning to be one. My nick name is Prem so I created ID with that name. my Id at TJ forum is Nilaish.
I was away from all market activities since last 4-5 months due to some personal problems. now I am again trying to concentrate on markets. today I was going through 60min live thread at TJ where I found the name of this new site.
I am in stock market since last 5-6 years but was never able to earn consistantly. Only after going through saint's 60min & miniflow method, I realised the importance of trading plan. I am confident that with the help of saint and other members (specially Smart Trade who helped me lot at TJ), I will be able to become a full time trader.

Thanks and Regards
Prem

Friends,

I take the liberty to start this new thread as a continuation to the wonderful old thread at TJ. Now that we are in the upswing, it is high time that we pay some attention to this method of trading. Many stocks have broken the last major pivot high and are just ripe for entering into trade. I am too raw to really point at the correct stocks but an attempt can be made to identify the stocks and trade this as per classic flow method.

Look forward to some active participation with lots of charts and technical discussions.

Happy flow trading

Bee
